One of the largest threats to industrial roofing systems of all types is water damage. Protection is one of the primary functions of commercial roofing, but detriment may come back from time to time.
At Jaco Roofing & Construction, Inc., we’re here to help with any water damage that takes place on your commercial roof. However, there are some common signs that it might be taking place. Here is what you will want to check on a regular basis:
If a few of the singles on your roof are missing, this is often the first sign of potential water damage. Shingles are the first line of protection against leaks, and their loss exposes the roof. If you notice any missing shingles, have them replaced as fast as possible to make sure your luck doesn’t run out.
If you have an attic, you should enter it periodically to check for rays of sunlight entering the room through the roof. If sun is going through roof beams, water could be doing so as well. Also check your insulation for mold or signs of moisture, which might indicate a problem you need to solve right away.
Gutters and Granules
Leaves are obviously fine in the gutters, but if you start to notice roofing granules in fairly copious amounts in the gutters, this is another possible sign of water damage.
Chimney flashings are a common cause of roof leaks, and we recommend getting them inspected yearly. Water that seeps through flashing can cause major damage, particularly on flat roofs that haven’t been maintained well.
If your roof is showing signs of wear, it may need to be replaced. The winter season may not be ideal for roof replacement, so if you detect any signs of damage look into replacements before the snow begins to fall.
